K S RADHAKRISHNAN
KS Radhakrishnan is recognised as one of the eminent figures of contemporary Indian art. A bronze sculptor, he is celebrated for the recurring themes in his work: the male and female archetypal figures called Musui and Maiya, as well as works created from tiny interlinked figures that represent ephemeral human experiences.
Radhakrishnan studied at one of India’s iconic cultural centres, Santiniketan, pursuing his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Fine Arts at Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati University. There he was mentored and trained by two significant figures of Indian modernism: Ramkinkar Baij and Sarbari Roy Choudhury. Over the decades, he has not only exhibited widely but also mentored younger artists, curated noteworthy exhibitions and publications through his Musui Art Foundation. The KS Radhakrishnan retrospective exhibition was held at New Delhi’s Bikaner House in 2024.
Some of his noted curatorial projects have been Ramkinkar Baij – A Retrospective (2012) at the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai; Pillars of an Artscape: 100 Years of Kala Bhavana at Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan; Somnath Hore: A Centenary Exhibition (2022) at Arthshila, Santiniketan and Emami Art Gallery, Kolkata, and Iti, Satyajit Da – the Satyajit Ray Centenary Exhibition (2022) at KCC, Kolkata. He also founded the art centre Tokaroun in Santiniketan.
Radhakrishnan’s work is found in many private collections in India and abroad. He has also installed several open-air and public sculptures in India and other countries.
